Contractor who was brought up by his parents from Nigeria and Mumbai when he was 7years old, traveled all over all over the world and had a taste of various cultures while growing up. She was educated in an boarding school in London between the ages of 7 and 9. Later, her family was relocated to London and moved to Toronto, Canada. Contractor studied and became a classical dancer in Toronto. The Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school that specializes in the arts), Contractor studied both dance and theatre. When she was 16, after nearly 10 years of dance Contractor discovered she was looking to take up acting as a profession. After graduating high school, Contractor received a scholarship from The University of Toronto to pursue an undergraduate degree in sociology and psychology. She also earned a master's degree in Theater. Contractor auditioned at the prestigious Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After an entire year, she was given the role of lead. Her work was highly acclaimed in the 92 plays which she was a part of. The play won her the 2002 award for the Best Production of the Year from Canadian Critics. The actor was invited to enroll in Stratford's conservatory program, where only eight males and four females are selected for a 20-week crash course in classical theatre, which she gladly accepted.
